BOROUGH OF NORTH BRADDOCK

Incorporated: 1897

         North Braddock is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.  North Braddock was organized from a part of Braddock Township in 1897. North Braddock occupies a slope of terrain between the Borough of Braddock, which touches the Monongahela River and East Pittsburgh, which occupies the highest ground. North Braddock (specifically, Jones Ave) was the site of General Edward Braddock's defeat in a battle of the French and Indian War (July 9, 1775), and was also the site of a mass meeting of farmers instituting the Whiskey Rebellion.

George Washington, First President of the United States.  Aide-de-Camp to General Braddock in the Battle of the Monongahela, 1755

Edward Braddock, British Army General, who led the ill-fated mission in 1755 to drive the French away from the forks of the Ohio River, which is now Pittsburgh.  The Battle of the Monongahela had such far-reaching consequences that the area became known as Braddock's Field, giving Braddock, North Braddock, and Braddock Hills their name.
