About

The Tetra Boro Development Forum (TBDF) is an alliance representing the boroughs of Braddock, North Braddock, Rankin, and Swissvale to work together on issues common to all four communities.  Residents and representatives from local organizations meet regularly to collaborate on activities that strengthen the constituent communities and the entire TBDF area.

Residents, government, social service, cultural, educational, recreational, religious, and business sectors are all represented in TBDF.  Most people involved in TBDF either live or work in one of its communities, but anyone who feels they have a stake in the communities is welcome to join in.

Mission:

The mission of TBDF is to collaborate and use the combined strengths and individual talents of its members to improve the overall quality of life in its constituent communities.  It sponsors activities in these communities and serves as a neutral facilitator bringing local groups and individuals together to achieve this goal

History & Accomplishments:

The TriBoro Development Forum was formed in 1996.  It has organized several community projects including:

  • Transformation of a dangerous vacant lot into the Braddock Avenue Municipal Parking Lot complete with trees and flower beds
  • Renovated the Braddock/North Braddock Ballfield
  • The establishment of the RankinBridgeGatewayGarden
  • Several smaller Image and Beautification activities
  • A Celebration of the Arts Festival
  • Annual Youth Achievement Celebrations
  • A community planning initiative that became the model for the Carrie Furnace brownfield redevelopment planning process.

Current Initiatives

The TriBoro Development Forum works to continue several initiatives that are the membership’s priorities for action, including:

  • Carrie Furnace development community participation to ensure community benefit from a high quality, sustainable development
  • News about TBDF and enhanced communications among their members through this web site, regular newsletters, and other uses of community-building technology
  • Updating and expanding TBDF area community planning to position community iniatives for significant funding opportunities
  • A gateway and visitor way finding sign system that celebrates the TBDF area’s communities and makes getting around the area easy and interesting
  • Annual planting of the RankinBridgeGatewayGarden and other sites around the TBDF area.  While work progresses on the Rankin bridge other sites may get a new look

Community 2.0, simply put, uses new types of communications media to help people make their community organizing and improvement projects and activities work better and reach more people.  A world-wide community problem-solving contest and a mini-radio station are two projects we’re working on now.
